Bujones, studied under Alicia Alonso's Cuban National Ballet later receiving a scholarship to the School of American Ballet in 1967. In 1972 he joined the American Ballet Theatre and at the age of 19 became the youngest principal male dancer in the history of American Ballet Theatre and in the world.
