This helmet has been used by multiple Guardian journalists reporting from different war zones. Protective items like this are taken out by journalists including Luke Harding, Martin Chulov and Emma Graham-Harrison when they go on assignment to dangerous areas or embed with the military in locations such as Afghanistan, Syria and Ukraine. The Mk 6 helmet was the standard combat helmet of the British Armed Forces as well as another supplied helmet of the UN during peacekeeping operations.
