Part of Illustrations by Les Gibbard

Depicts two trains passing by each other with Neil Kinnock (dressed as a woman) on one train, depicted in a luxury train carriage reading an Agatha Christie novel. Another train is speeding past the window of this carriage and in this train you can see a man depicted as the National Union of Railway men with "Pay Pound" written on his front. He sits with with politicians such as Margaret Thatcher (holding poison), Norman Fowler (holding a knife) and a man in a pin stripe suit strangling the man depicting the Union.

Context: Rail Strikes happened over weeks bringing london traffic to a standstill, over issues of pay rises and eventually the government accepted for the pay rises of 8.8% to proceed.

Depicts Norman Fowler setting off a guillotine which will chop the head off a man labelled 'public opposition'. The guillotine has the words 'privatisation' written on it. Margaret Thatcher is watching on with delight. Thatcher, Fowler and the guillotine are all on an island surrounded by water and flooded houses, the water is labelled rising prices. On the left, a man in 19th/18th century military uniform is sitting on a tap which has water coming out of it into the lake of 'rising prices'. The man has a cigar in his mouth and is clapping.

Nigel Lawson, Norman Fowler and Ken Clarke are shown as mobsters, holding a briefcase and cigar, an axe, and a petrol bomb. They seem to be threatening the railroad, stating "Potentially nice little railroad you've got here!", "Pity if it had to close on account of no customers!" "If I were you I'd seriously consider some protection!" Margaret Thatcher is also shown behind in a car looking on as her MPs carry out their crimes.

On the right side of the cartoon the now older looking children exit the school and are directed into a building labelled 'Youth Training' by [Norman Fowler]. The 'NHS' is being washed in 'PRIVATISATION' as Margaret Thatcher watches on with glee. Next to her is Norman Fowler speaking to a protestor whose placard reads 'TUC SAYS SAVE STATE JOBS!' In the background is a nurse who is rolling her sleeve up as she makes her way over with an annoyed expression on her face.

Margaret Thatcher stands in the 'Monetarism Underworld' cave, next to the personified Election Prospects, Growth, and Employment. James Prior, an unknown man, and Norman Fowler [left to right], holding harps, are ascending out of the cave with nervous expressions, [representing Orpheus]. Dogs with the heads of Geoffrey Howe and Keith Joseph [left to right] are sat in the corner.

Context: the cartoon appears to suggest that Thatcher has gotten rid of key figures including the three men leaving, but that is actually a blessing for them, as Thatcher's pursuit of monetarism is dooming the economy and thus her election prospects.

There is a rough outline of the illustration on back.
