Full transcript of an interview with Alistair Cooke, journalist for the Guardian. Conducted by Alan Rusbridger in early 1998. Transcribed 9 March 1998, 26 pages.

Cooke discusses his family, his early upbringing and his schooling. He explains how he started writing for the Guardian after suggesting that he write reviews of the Cambridge Festival Threatre for the newspaper, his time working for the BBC as a film critic and working for the Times. Cooke mentions his marriage to his wife, Jane, who was a war widow.

Cooke goes on to discuss his work for the Guardian as a Washington correspondent, remembering working with Max Freedman.
