Parte de Records of Guardian Media Group

Working report of the Manchester Guardian and Evening News Limited. The working report starts with an introduction by the chairman of the directors, Laurence Prestwich Scott which starts with a tribute to his late father 'It is with great regret that I find myself in the position of writing this introduction. The report also features a review of the financial year; balance sheet; profit and loss account; appropriation account; an explanation of the accounts - part one, taxation; a historical view of the Guardian's circulation with a chart for circulation 1937-49 and map showing sales distribution throughout England; figures for circulation, sales and advertising (with advertising/editorial ratios and display/classified advertising revenue) for the Guardian, the Manchester Evening News and the Guardian Weekly; issues concerning the staff including headcount and gender breakdown by department, pensioners, working days lost and sick leave; a report on the Scott Trust with a photograph of trustees (R Ebbage, William Haley, LP Scott, the solicitor to the trustees, AP Wadsworth, RF Scott, CP Scott and L Montague) taken November 1948; and details of the materials used by the company.
