Part of Illustrations by Les Gibbard

Depicts Edward (Ted) Heath being brought up to a stage to give a speech. By the stage there is a pillar with the words 'disloyal' hanging from it. It is at a Conservative party conference and all the senior Conservatives at the time are there. Only 3 conservatives including [Norman Tebbit] and [Geoffrey Rippon] are clapping Heath onto the stage.

[This likely refers to divisions within the Conservative party at the time.]

Margaret Thatcher rides a donkey across a chasm. She is being chased by David Owen, SDP leader, and Roy Hattersley, shadow chancellor, also on donkeys, who stop just short of the cliff edge. Two big clumps of earth fall away under Thatcher, labelled 'Back Bench,' and 'Constituencies.' Thatcher carries a big bag labelled '£' to the other side, on which there is a sign pointing towards 'Top-peoplesville.' A line connects Thatcher and the words 'The pay must get through!'

Context: The government was at the time pushing through significant pay rises for high earners in the public sector.
