Illustration originally used to accompany an article titled 'Blinded by the fog of our failure' by Martin Woollacott on social division in the United States and Asia twenty years after the fall of Saigon and the Vietnam War, which appeared in the Guardian on 24 April 1995. The drawing shows figures on top of a globe structure walking with their arms out, with their heads engulfed by a cloud containing the text 'Vietnam'. Includes newspaper clipping.
Till; Peter (1945-); illustratorHarold Wilson is shown having reached a crossroads which he is unable to access. His route to the road which is labelled 'Incomes Policy' has been blocked by an emerging giant pair of arms, which in turn blinker Wilson's view with cards that read 'AEF Card' and 'TGWU Card'. In the cartoon, Wilson is looking back. The only road open to him is back along the 'Free For All' one behind him.
