A Bumpy Ride
LDG/1/9/62 · Item · [1980s]
Part of Illustrations by Les Gibbard

Margaret Thatcher is being carried in a sedan chair marked 'Thatcherism' by the cabinet and the Tory Party, the latter of whom has dropped the chair in shock at having just knocked down and stepped on the Unemployed in their procession (all of these personified as individual figures). A milestone reads 'To Boomsville. Not much farther - honest!'.

Context: the cartoon appears to suggest that the Tory Party is starting to have doubts about the economic benefits of Thatcherism, particularly on the unemployed.
