Scope and content

Response to a letter sent by Lennon on 3 June. Beckett remarks on an account of Dublin actress La Manahan by Sean Page, Features Editor of the Dublin Evening Press, and mentions Mac Liammóir's show at Vieux Colombier on 12 June ['Soiree Oscar Wilde in Festival of Nations' accoring to Lennon's note]. He also reassures Lennon about his recent piece for The Guardian (titled 'Final Accolades for Beckett' according to Lennon's note), saying 'You must write what you feel and think without fear or favour and above all pay no attention to authors', and congratulates Lennon on a recent article in the New Yorker ('Adult Company', about a crooked Dublin school master, published 12 May [1961]).
