        Dates: 1928-2022. The Guardian's first staff appointment in Africa, [1959]. Had previously worked at the London Daily Mail, Drum magazine in Lagos and the Central African Examiner in Salisbury. He covered East Africa, Northern Rhodesia (Zambia), Nyasaland (Malawi), and Southern Rhodesia (Zimbabwe). Through Sanger the Guardian appointed first black African stringer for a British newspaper, Nathan Shamuyarira. He moved to Canada in 1967, where he worked for the Toronto Globe and Mail, firstly as a member of his editorial board and later of its Ottawa Bureau. He was also a regular correspondent for Gemini News Service, 1966-1990s and served as a governor of the Service's governing body, Newsconcern International Foundation, c1980s-c1990s.
