Scope and content

Cuttings of articles, comments, and letters concerning the former Guardian literary editor Richard Gott and the story surrounding his links to the KGB as revealed by Alasdair Palmer in the Spectator using the word of former KGB colonel Oleg Gordievsky as evidence.

Includes the Spectator article by Palmer on the 10 December 1994 titled 'How the KGB ran the Guardian's features editor. Other clippings comment on the story and its impact including the publishing of a list of other public figures who were recruited by the KGB that Peter Preston challenged the Spectator to provide.

Additional clippings show published letters to the Spectator by AR and Richard Gott in 1995 seeking to clarify and refute various claims relating to the scandal and its evidence along with commenting on how other journalists reacted and published the story.

Also included is a copy of a review written by Gott for the book 'Anthony Blunt: His Lives' written by Miranda Carter in a November 2001 edition of the New Statesman.
