Notebook written mostly in shorthand, containing notes on: refugees and food supplies in the Republic of the Congo; military presence in the Republic of the Congo; the death of [Patrice Lumumba]; relations between the UN and the Republic of the Congo; European teachers, teacher training and children in educational establishments in the Republic of the Congo; unrest and conflict in the Republic of the Congo; [Federal] cuts to development schemes in Nyasaland; education and funding for teacher training in East Africa; calls for Kenyan independence; and the release of Jomo Kenyatta.
Names featured include: [Captain Purdon], Moïse Tshombe, Patrice Lumumba, Valerian Zorin, Jean Foster Manzikala, Victor Lundula, Joseph-Désiré Mobutu, Sir Roy Welensky, JK [Jomo Kenyatta]; [Daniel Toroitich arap] Moi and [Ole] Tipis.
Transcribed in 2021 as part of the Clyde Sanger shorthand transcription project with funding from The National Archives' Collaborate and Innovate Testbed Fund. The pdf transcription document also contains a digitised copy of the notebook.
